I haven’t posted in quite sometime, though I have been meaning to. Being home in the U.S. for the summer has been very good, but it brings with it added responsibility: getting a job. In order to afford the expensive undertaking that is University I am working a full-time job for the summer months, this is something that I am accustomed to doing, I have been for a few years now. This summer, however, I am noticing more than ever the struggle that comes with balancing “real life” with training for athletic endeavors. I struggle to find the motivation to get up early to exercise before work, and then to get out the door once I get home to go for a run or something.

I think the root of my struggle lies with my preference to run with other people, a luxury I find myself without during the summer months. Therefore I continually look for ways to motivate myself to get out and train, when it is all to easy just to sit in my recliner in front of the TV. The most effective strategy I have found so far is to set goals and make a plan to achieve those goals.

This week I am going to have a look at the calendar and see what adventures or races I can seize to mark as my goals, and then I am going to put a plan together to liberate myself from this chair! Wish me luck!
